August 2008 was not only the big 50th Anniversary party for my Mom and Dad, it was also
our annual Wade Reunion. The day after the anniversary celebration we met that morning at Mike Harris Camp Ground by Victor, Idaho for breakfast. When my Grandma and Grandpa Swainston were alive, they use to like to camp there and often we would meet them in the morning for a delicious breakfast. The Wade Reunion this year was centered more around memories that us kids had from growing up in the Teton Valley. Camping and eating breakfast at Mike Harris Camp Ground was one of them. One of the other events we did was go to the Spud Drive -In Theater. How many places are there that still have a drive in theater? We still have one in Driggs and that was the big thing to do on the weekends was to go there with our friends and families. You would get a Gladys Burger to eat after they called your name over the intercom to come and get it. Now you can set up chairs and blankets and sit outside your cars and watch and listen to the movie because it is played over a radio station instead of the speakers that we use to have to set inside our car windows, which lots of time they would not work. I made some caramel popcorn with Reese's pieces in it, for everyone to eat and fun was had by all. We watched the new Indiana Jones movie, which I don't think was as good as his others. I hate to say it, but I think that Harris Ford is getting a little too old for those kinds of movies. I like Harris Ford. Kendra, Taylor and I even went up with him in his airplane five years ago when he was takinig kids for flights in the valley, which was very cool, but he did look a little old in this movie.
Anyway, we had a great day. Some of the teenagers tried to climb Table Rock ,which I have done a few times. They left too late and weren't wearing quite the right shoes to really make it. Maybe next time. Some of the kids floated down the Teton River, which was always fun to do.
That evening we grilled hamburgers in Mom and Dad's backyard before going to the movie. Taylor put into gear the motorhome that was parked in the driveway with other cousins in it. Luckily, Tony's nice big pickup was behind it and stopped it from going out into the street or hitting other cars. Never a dull minute with Grandkids!!
